Vision statement
The Musculoskeletal Research Focus Area at NEOMED promotes the health and understanding of musculoskeletal biology. We investigate the origins of musculoskeletal form to understand how performance influences disease and evolution. Our research spans different levels of organization ― from molecules to organisms ― to provide an integrative and inclusive view of muscle, bone and cartilage.
A partner’s perspective
Noah Dunham, Ph.D., of Cleveland Metroparks Zoo discusses the importance of musculoskeletal research, including a study on primate jumping with NEOMED’s Jesse Young, Ph.D.
The Statistics
1M
Arthritis is responsible for nearly 1 million hospitalizations per year.
65+
Nearly half of all Americans over the age of 65 suffer from arthritis.
1:2
One in two women over the age of 50 will break a bone due to osteoporosis.

The Scientists
Researchers within this area have a multi-level understanding of musculoskeletal anatomy, function and pathology.
