Saving Sight

July 23, 2018

Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness in the U.S., and the death of cells in this disease leads to the loss of sight. Researcher Denise Inman, Ph.D., assistant professor of pharmaceutical sciences,  recently received funding from Columbus-based Invirsa, Inc., to examine the ability of an  experimental compound to protect the cells that normally die in the progression of the disease.

Inman’s research team will conduct the study on rats exposed to high intraocular pressure. The medication will be applied topically, as eye drops, to test its efficacy.  Dr. Inman’s lab works in NEOMED’s Neurodegenerative Disease and Aging research focus area.
