Accreditation

Accreditation matters! Discover how NEOMED’s Bitonte College of Dentistry meets rigorous educational standards to prepare future dentists for success.

Is NEOMED’s dental program accredited?

In 2024, the Bitonte College of Dentistry at NEOMED earned initial accreditation from the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and the Higher Learning Commission. NEOMED is now proudly included in the list of CODA-accredited dental education programs, underscoring our commitment to excellence in medical and professional health care education.

Accreditation is a rigorous process that demands careful adherence to established protocols. NEOMED is extremely well-respected by the nation’s highest level of accreditation agencies across several medical and professional health care agencies. This new milestone for NEOMED’s dental program is a testament to our exceptional track record in achieving accreditation.

Every modern doctor of dentistry program has traveled the sequential journey of accreditation application, accreditation review, initial accreditation, and ultimately, full accreditation. NEOMED’s dental program, as the third of its kind in the State of Ohio, will navigate the same path.

Our program in dental education has been granted the accreditation status of “initial accreditation” by CODA, a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education. For further inquiries, CODA can be contacted at 312-440-4653 or at 211 E. Chicago Ave., Chicago, IL 60611. More information is also available on the Commission’s website.

Is NEOMED accredited?

Yes! NEOMED, founded in 1973, has been continuously accredited for nearly 50 years. NEOMED is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, with the most recent accreditation occurring in 2022. Learn about NEOMED’s additional accreditations.

Why is accreditation important?

Accreditation is a process where a group of experts evaluates a college or university to make sure it meets certain standards. It protects students.

There are two levels of accreditation:

  • Institutional accreditation ensures that the college or university offers high-quality academic programs and has a sound financial foundation.
  • Program-specific accreditation goes a step further by attesting that graduates of the program are qualified to practice a specific profession.

When will final accreditation for the Bitonte College of Dentistry be granted?

CODA will grant final accreditation only after a class of students graduates. Student success is one of the criteria it will examine. This means that NEOMED is highly motivated to provide an exceptional student experience for the first class and afterward.
