Residency Overview
The post-graduate pharmacy residency emphasizes five distinct learning experiences:
- Pharmaceutical Care and Practice Management
- Distribution/Staffing
- Teaching & Learning
- Project Management
Gain Experience, Confidence & Support
This residency program provides residents with experience, confidence and support to:
- participate in the provision of pharmaceutical care services by providing direct patient care; participating in practice management; developing, implementing or enhancing pharmacy services; and, providing drug information resources and consults to other health care providers
- develop educational skills including small group, large group and clinical precepting through participation in the NEOMED College of Pharmacy Teaching and Learning Curriculum
- participate in professional development through attending local and national organization meetings, participation in pharmacy organizations and collaboration with other providers, faculty members and students
- design and implement a major project that will be submitted for publication in an appropriate journal as well as presented at a regional residency conference and one national conference
Where You Will Spend Your Time
About 80% of the residency is spent at the practice site. Pharmaceutical care services provided at the practice site include:
- Disease State Management under collaborative practice agreements (Diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, anticoagulation, hepatitis C and others)
- Medication Therapy Management
- Spirometry Testing
- Pain Management
About 20% of the residency is spent at NEOMED under the guidance of the residency program director. NEOMED responsibilities include:
- Teaching large and small group as assigned.
- Participating in committee work as assigned.
- Attending college and department meetings.
In addition to fulfilling the residency program goals, residents will also be required to participate in a program orientation, complete research training, actively participate in program recruitment efforts, and engage in self-evaluations and assessments.
