Message From the Dean
The NEOMED College of Pharmacy is excited to recognize the 20th anniversary of our founding. The College received approval from the State of Ohio and the NEOMED Board of Trustees in 2005; the first class matriculated in 2007. During the past year, I had the pleasure of having Dr. David Allen, who was the founding dean of the College, as a mentor. It was helpful to learn more about his vision for the College.
The 2024-2025 academic year was a busy one with an onsite ACPE accreditation visit in April. The visit went well and our commitment to high-quality interprofessional education was acknowledged in the final report. We received the full 8-year term for our accreditation. Shortly after the visit, NEOMED did a search for a permanent dean for the College. After serving as the interim dean for two years, I was honored to be selected as the permanent dean and given the opportunity to continue leading this exceptional program.
The profession of pharmacy is facing a lot of changes right now. The opportunities for graduates continue to expand into new areas and current clinical practice continues to evolve. I am optimistic about the future of the pharmacy profession, but it will take advocacy and action to ensure that legislative changes are positive for our profession.
Sincerely,
Katherine Tromp, Pharm.D.

Research at NEOMED
The NEOMED College of Pharmacy is driven by its commitment to pursue educational excellence and advanced research. The College aims to address the current healthcare issues facing society, while enhancing the knowledge of our students. The main research focus area is Neurodegenerative Disease and Aging with faculty working in other areas such as pharmacogenomics, musculoskeletal research, and diabetes, obesity and metabolism.
The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is very supportive of student research; they have supported 70 summer student trainees and 100+ high school students during the past five years. For pharmacy students in particular, the College launched a Pharmacy Research Curriculum Concentration. This created the opportunity for an extra distinction for students heavily involved in research during their Pharm.D. program. The NEOMED College of Graduate Studies offers a Ph.D. program that five Pharm.D. graduates have completed or are currently completing.
