Medical Ethics & Humanities

Advance your career with a foundation in medical ethics and the humanities

Enhance your ethical decision-making skills

Students in the Medical Ethics and Humanities Master of Arts (M.A.) or graduate certificate program will learn to critically examine issues and values relevant to health care delivery, research and the health care organization. This course of study is ideal for busy medical professionals and students pursuing clinical and community-based work.

The program is tailored for medical students and professionals seeking to thrive in both clinical and community settings. It provides an in-depth exploration of the values and ethical issues that critically shape healthcare research, delivery and organizational practices.

It equips students to navigate the complex ethical dilemmas prevalent in health care, such as disagreements between patients and doctors or treatment limitations imposed by insurance policies. This training focuses on using logic, facts and values to thoroughly evaluate ethical problems and determine the most appropriate course of action for all stakeholders: the patient, the provider, and the organization.

Students who pursue this course of study will emerge prepared to make ethical decisions while considering the values of patients, families and practitioners as well as legal implications and medical board requirements.
